I've spent about 10 years doing public health HIV prevention education with at-risk gay men. It's surprising how ordinary discussions about quite specific sexual behavior can become so...ordinary. Being up to one's ears in sexual behavior (doing outreach in adult bookstores, theaters, baths, parks) does have long term consequences, though. The idea of casual sex was pretty much out the window after 10 years of talking about risk and the dire consequences thereof.

Too bad that age and AIDS are both working against the occasional fling, now that time away from that peculiar hothouse atmosphere is making the idea more interesting again

Sounds like a very interesting experience. I used to regulate elements of the adult entertainment business in my first job after university. I have to admit it never got dull (we got the giggles a lot), and certain titles will stick with me always!! I just hope the role isn't in customer service or you'll be getting a lot of "my husband INSISTS he never..." ;-)
